How To Make Viral Pinterest Pins That Are Legal

In this post your going to Learn What Images Are Legal To Use on your Pinterest Pin, Blog or Anywhere online & How to Go Viral.

Hello fam let’s get to it. How To Make Viral Pinterest Pins.

Using images from Google or from just doing a Google search for the images you wan’t to use is very dangerous.

Maybe you have done this yourself before.  C’mon tell the truth….we won’t tell anybody.

I’ll be straight with you…I have done it before in the past but I will no longer use them myself especially on an asset I’ll want to keep for a long time – and a blog and Pinterest post both qualify.

So that’s why I wanted to let you know where you can find images that are safe to use before we get to the viral part of a Pinterest post.

Why cant I use any image I want for Pinterest or my blog?

You might have seen the little © all over the place, and might have wondered what does it mean and how did it get there?

To be frank it stands for copyright, but to get a comprehensive and accurate understanding of copyright, we went to the most official source we could think of – drumroll – the United States Copyright Office.

Copyright, a form of intellectual property law, protects original works of authorship including literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic works, such as poetry, novels, movies, songs, computer software, and architecture (source: US Copyright Office).

Now that we have a pretty explicit description of what copyright is, it’s time to address when and how you can use someone else’s work and if you even want to.

The general rule of is that you must receive authorization from the creator in order to use his/her image (it’s probably a great idea to get this in writing).

Does this mean that every single one of the billions of pictures on the internet is either authorized by the creator or in violation of online images copyright?

The answer is no – and this is where some use the angle of Fair Use which is a whole topic on it’s own.

This is why for the sake of speed I say just stay away from images that are not clear for use period and do not require any authorization or notification – Got it? Cool.

Where can I find images that are safe to use online?

There are a couple suggestions I have for you and most are free.

Here’s a list of some awesome resources for free images below if your concerned about your budget or you just use a massive amount of images.

  • StockSnap.io: StockSnap has hundreds of beautiful high-resolution photos that are free from copyright restrictions. They add new photos every week and can subscribe to have them sent to your inbox.
  • Unsplash: Unsplash is built by a community of over 41,000 photographers who aim to inspire. This site has over 200,000 images that companies including Slack, WordPress, Squarespace, and Apple have used.
  • FlickrFlickr is probably the most popular resource for free stock images. They have a combination of professional photos and amateur photos, so you may have to do some digging to find what you want. While a lot of the pictures are fair game on Flickr, you have to confirm that you follow the rules of the creative commons license they have selected.
  • Stock.XchngWith a robust search engine, this is one of my preferred places to “shop” for free images. Stock.Xchng is owned by iStock, so the first row of images are often paid images – but the pictures that follow are entirely free!
  • PixabayIf you’re after high-quality images, Pixabay is where it’s at. Also, you don’t have to create an account to download a picture. Just click “download,” and you’re set to go.
  • Pexels: The best free stock photos & videos shared by talented creators.
  • Pixabay: Stunning royalty free stock images, over one million quality stock images and videos shared by their talented community
  • Librestock: On their site you can scan and index the best free photos from the top stock sites, so that you can find that perfect image much, much quicker.

Some Paid Resources For Images

  • Shutterstock: Pretty expensive but ultra clean imagery that can get pretty striking. Over 247 million royalty-free images, stock footage clips, and music tracks.
  • Gettyimages: VERY Expensive – this more for professionals or site owners with bigger budgets, massive amount of great content.
  • Cutcaster: Awesome images as well…in fact at this moment I believe they only do images, but there super clean and professional. They are by far the most affordable out of the bunch and a great resource for the solopreneur or person that is just starting out.

Now that you know what images not to use and where you can find great images that you can use, let’s continue on to actually creating a pin that can go viral and help you crush it on Pinterest.
