How To Grow Dreads Super Fast or “How long have you been growing your dreds.
I knew you were going to ask that, trust I get that everywhere I go. The grocery store, school functions for my children, when I’m out eating or walking down the street.
Well for how to grow Dreads Super Fast…I’ll get to that in a minute.
I’m going to start with the most asked question… “How Long Are Your Dreads?”
The Answer To How Long Dreads Are Is..
I have no idea! I really don’t measure them, but I will say I’m 5’7″ and I believe my dreads are a little less than 5 inches from the ground….which reminds me I’m going to have to do some cutting.
How do you make your dreads grow faster?
The simple answer is just leave them alone…DO NOT TWIST WHILE YOUR DREADS ARE DRY!!!!!
How do you keep dreads healthy and growing?
Well remember I told you to not twist your dreads if their dry. Well there are a couple more pointers on how you can keep your dreads in stellar condition.
The bad ( or good part ) is that you are going to get hit with on onslaught of admirers that want to know exactly how you got such a gorgeous mane.
What Do You Need To do To Keep Your Dreads Healthy and Growing
- Keep them clean – You do not have to go extra when it comes to cleaning your hair.
- Never drown your locks with synthetic material line grease or beeswax – they drown, they die, how would you fare if I spread sealed your mouth and nostrils with beeswax. Also as time goes by that build up is going to manifest itself as some thick grey nasty looking gunk
- Use Clarifying Shampoo and Dawn to clean dreads for deep cleaning in between Real Deed Cleaning
Do dreads smell?
No dreads do not smell or let me tack that back…they don’t smell bad if you treat them right. They will only smell if you do not wash them, or if you do not dry them properly.
Matter of fact if washed correctly they tend to take on the scent of the shampoo even if you rinse all the soap out, that’s why after I lather them up with Clarifying Shampoo about 3 times, I finish with a coconut shampoo.
It leaves you locks smelling awesome…and the ladies love it!
Dreads are very porous. When you wash them, water does flow through to the inside. The biggest problem occurs if you do not dry them fully. Water will get trapped inside, and overtime, mildew will build up in the centers of the locks making them smell bad.
However, if you wash your hair regularly and use a hair dryer to make sure your dreads dry completely, you can avoid this problem easily.
But since my dreads are so long I start the drying process by stepping outside, grabbing them by the base swing them like a helicopter. that pretty much kills most of the heavy dripping so I can get on with twisting and moistening my roots.
Are dreads unsanitary?
Where do you hear this crazy mess. No….dreads are not unsanitary as long as you clean them and maintain them you should have no issues whatsoever.
I will admit that I did have a phase where I was using a lot of grease in my hair and I truly think that was a mistake because when I did a deep cleanse I pulled a lot of gunk out of my hair and it felt lighter and healthier.
What should I wash my dreads with?
There are two types of cleanings I use for my dreads.
- Deep Cleaning – I pre treat my hair in advance with Organic Extra Virgin Cold Pressed Coconut Oil
Baking Soda Deep Clean ingredients: (note: these ingredients have been tweaked to balance the ph levels when combining apple cider vinegar (ACV) and Baking Soda) Large bowl of warm water 1/4 cup of baking soda 2tsp of lemon juice 1tsp of sea salt 3/4 cup of acv Stir until all is well dissolved - Regular Wash – I like to start with Dawn to help break down oil, then rinse, then I lather it up with a clarifying shampoo, then rinse, lather up with clarifying shampoo again then rinse, then I lather up again with coconut shampoo then rinse out thoroughly.
How often should I wash my dreads?
I really fluctuate with this but I like to give my dreads at least 30 days. Washing them too much will strip the natural oils from your hair and scalp which can cause flaking. It’s a good idea to not go longer than 3 months without a thorough cleaning.
Are dreadlocks permanent?
Don’t be crazy…haven’t you heard of scissors?
No but really, when I started my loc journey I use to take my locks out to get rid of every single piece of lint. I stopped that asap though because you lose a lot of hair.
How do you grow dreads with short hair?
Great question and I get this all the time along with How To Grow Dreads Super Fast.
How about I just tell you exactly how I started 5 different people on their loc journey that had short hair and of different textures. It’s super simple.
I simply start them off with small box braids. It helps a lot when it comes to short starter dreads and gets you to the cleaning phase faster.
Without the box braids just a little bit of water turns your new dreads into puffs. Which will have you almost starting from scratch again and again.
Got it!! Good.
