Tip number one is – the best way to build business credit is thru leveraging personal credit. The reason = most business funding requires you to be in business for 2 years or they give you a percentage of what you earn monthly.
With personal credit you can give a personal guarantee and they judge you off the cards and accounts you already manage. For example my largest card is $16,950, so I should expect to see a business card along the lines of $48,000 (3x to 10x my highest personal card).
Second tip is be careful when running up expenses or maxing out a new card unless you can pay it off real quick.
Here’s what happened to me. I got an awesome card from Elan financial for $14,500.
I started off transferring balances to the card at 0% which was fine but then I started running a lot of expenses at the card and ran it past 50%.
Out of the blue they dropped the card limit to $8,300. This hit my credit negatively twice. Once for dropping my total or over all credit limit and another for having a card with a balance that was almost maxed out.
My motto is to always run as many expenses as possible thru your credit cards.
Especially when they have cash back incentives, it’s like having an instant powered up savings account that actually generates money….your going to pay those bills anyway, might as well get paid for it (like a third tip ain’t it?)
But you should be on it when it comes to paying that credit card back – when it’s on your personal credit.
Which is why it’s in your best interest to use business credit.
Your score remains high no matter how much of it you use as long as you maintain payments.
